A Trip to the Chinese Market

Just up the hill from El Hogar is the "Chinese Market", a small store where one can pick up various necessities. Jason typically makes a trip to the market upon arrival at El Hogar, and after the long flight, we were all looking for a chance to get out and stretch our legs. We passed through the gates of El Hogar, all 11 of us, heading out on our first trip into the urban environment surrounding the school. We strode along the dirt path that serves as a sidewalk. Cars whizzed by, tooting with abandon at pedestrians and other vehicles alike. As we walked along, I looked back over my shoulder and was struck by how strange and completely out of place we looked: a line of 11 gringos walking single-file along the path, sticking out like one very large sore thumb. It was amusing, but it also was an opportunity to reflect on the contrast between the opportunities in our lives and the lack there-of for so many here in Tegucigalpa.
