Sopa con banana, take 2

Today we visited the agricultural school, eating lunch there instead of El Hogar. Although last time the food there was fantastic, I wouldn`t say the same this time but that is likely a reflection of the season (early May vs. early October). They are just beginning to prepare the fields for this year`s crops, so the fresh veggies are in short supply. Soup for lunch again, but a teenage-boy-working-on-a-farm sized portion with beans, rice, potato, banana, and a bit of beef, and let`s just say I won`t make soup with green bananas in it at home. They are starchy and absorbent but thankfully with no banana flavor. Two days in a row, at different places!

As usual, the drive out to both places gave us both beautiful views (though browner than last time) and glimpses into very deep poverty. You can really see the density of the shacks on the mountainsides, and get some very close-up views of how they`re cobbled together. And, of course, the usual Honduran style of driving. Even with the reasonably cautious Raul at the wheel, we decided that the rooftop-skimming approach to the airportwas MUCH safer than driving on the roads.
